NSAC21 POEM: "SAY IT ALL" by KAGORO ENOCK, S.5 Lubiri Secondary School.
SAY IT ALL!
Wait!
Do I need to say it all?
Do I need to tell you how I became jobless?
When the pot-bellied officer rolled and scolded me
To bring a khaki envelope for an interview?
Do I even need to say it all?
When the officer in a whitish attire
Made a wink at the intoxicated driver
And how the vehicle rolled into the valley minutes later!
Sad, tens of lives demised.
No, I don’t need to say it all!
Do I need to tell you how the court dismissed Mukasa’s land case?
For he had no saliva to escort his plea!
I definitely don’t need to tell you everything.
Do I need to tell the youth how to slay corruption?
Do I need to tell you how you can be a voice!
How we can report the vice without fear
Kill the vice by being an example
Refuse bribes and give information
SEE it, CONDEMN it, REPORT it!
Where do we report anyway?
When the man in office is busy asking
How he is to gain from it
But wait!
Do I need to tell you how the youth have laboured?
How they have been suppressed!
Or even how they have been neglected
In efforts to end corruption…
I don’t need to tell you
How a fellow was grabbed on Luwum street
Like a chicken thief
For he was against the shoddy work on roads
‘’He is an enemy of the progress’’ they said
I don’t need to tell you about the youth peaceful protests
That have been suppressed by Major General "Nothing"
For they are a threat to state security!
Do I need to tell you everything?
I don’t need to inform the informed
That this is a vice we have nurtured
HAA! HAA! HAA!
I am not a multilingual but
I had my nephew from masaka say, ‘’enjawulo’’
My Tanzanian in-law say, ‘’kintu kidogo’’
My cousin from Fort Portal say ‘’ekitugga’’
Yes, it’s a word-twist game.
Different coloured dresses,
But same Old-ugly face!
The duty remains yours and mine
To pull the trigger and fire the foe
Its about us
A generation we can save ahead if we do this together
Yes, we can!
A corruption free Uganda starts with you and I
Together, as a budding age, corruption can end!
